Many of you asked me if we could have another Ugly Fat Quarter Challenge – so, here it is… with one awesomely fun alteration!!

We all have them, you know you do! That ugly bit of fabric that makes you wonder, “What in the world was I thinking when I bought that?” or perhaps, “Why did they send me this FQ in that swap last year, probably they could not find anything to do with it either!” It is time to dig out that ugly, unwanted, poor orphaned scrap of fabric and make it into something delightful.

The Challenge – Find an ugly scrap of fabric (about a FQ worth, 22” by 18”) in your stash.  ALL FQ's submitted MUST BE HIGH QUALITY, COTTON, QUILTING FABRIC.

Here’s the angle – Send your Fat Quarter to the hostess (Jess) in a plain paper envelope that is not see-through, and she will SWAP Fat Quarters randomly between participants. That is right, you will receive someone else’s Ugly Fat Quarter to use in this challenge! Since we all admired the Ugly Fat Quarters of others during the 2008 Ugly FQ Challenge, we thought this would be a fun new way to do the challenge. Please include a self addressed, stamped envelope with the package for me to send your new Ugly to you. (International Participants – e-mail me at jess@thequiltandneedle.com and we will work something out!)

When you receive your new Ugly FQ, post a photo it to the Ugly FQ Challenge thread on The Quilt and Needle Forum... we will all want to know who is working with our Ugly submission! Then, make something fun, lovely, or useful from that Ugly bit of fabric that you receive. Your final product can be something as small as a coaster, or something as large as a bed quilt, but the Ugly FQ has to be a noticeable part of the end product. You can use any other fabrics and materials with the Ugly FQ to create your final submission. Post your final product photo on this thread.

Judging Criteria – The submissions will be judged both on ugliness of the original scrap of fabric and worthiness of the final product. Basically, it is a judgment of “Most Improved” bit of fabric. The first place winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to The Quilt and Needle. The runner up with receive a $25 gift certificate to The Quilt and Needle.

Deadlines – The deadline for submission of your original Ugly FQ and is October 31, 2009 (Halloween!!). I will swap the FQ’s and send them back out within one week. Final product photos are due on February 12, 2010. Winners will be decided using an online poll of our forum members and newsletter recipients.

Who wants to play?????

Jess, I'd love to play, but gee....I just don't think there's any ugly fabric in my stash!

(I'm using one of those uglies now in a Celtic applique project! )

Anyway, sign me up - I'm sure I can find something!

One man's junk is another's treasure!! Or so they say!

Let me think on it a bit - I don't think I have any uglies, either (if we don't have any, can we buy one??)

Oh, this is going to be soooo much fun! Cindy, you made me laugh out loud!! And Gerda, I agree with what Cindy says. Whenever you purchase it, it is a part of your stash. Hehe.

Dorian has agreed to co-hostess for me, cause she is awesome!!

Sally - please try to have the ugly to me on or before halloween.

Count me in. Sounds like fun! I'm not sure I have any ugly fabric yet, since I haven't been collecting fabric for very long. But I'll find something!

A new challenge ... what fun!

Jess, please sign me up!

Have I got an Ugly Fat Quarter for someone ..

When I went on that bus trip to the Quilt Show in NH last summer we did a stop at Keepsake Quilting and they gave us a grab bag of fat quarter bundles.  Everyone got to close they eyes and pick a pack of four.  One of the FQs in my bundle was the ug-li-est  piece of fabric I have ever seen    ... and y'all know how much I love fabric ... well this FQ sure needs a little loving

Good luck to whovever gets this one ... well, the good news is that anything you do is bound to improve this fabric ...

Can't wait to see what "ugly" that needs some lovin' I receive ...

  Pat

Okay, sign me up for this one too! I can't help but laugh out loud when Cindy says some of the things she says, so I am off to "hunt" for an ugly fat quarter! This is gonna really be FUN! If nothing else we will have a lot of laughs! And hopefully wind up with something beautiful, out of an ugly in the end!
