My "Ugly Quilt" is finally done, and I'm going to try to post a couple pictures.  The name of the quilt is "Boston Commons" - it is from a book of republished and modernized Mountain Mist patterns.  The patterns have been updated for rotary cutting and strip piecing.  Boston Commons is make using Seminole strip piecing methods.  It measures 88 x 103.  Hopefully, weather permitting, tomorrow I'll take it down to my Amish friend, Ida, to have it hand quilted.  Sorry the picture of the entire quilt isn't all that good - I don't have anywhere big enough to spread it out completely.  My "ugly fabric" is the light green with gold threads in it - should be able to see it in the close up pictures.

Nola - what a wonderful quilt. I like the Boston Commons pattern. I t was one of my first to do when I got back at quilting. Mind you it is still waiting to be quilted. lol Soon I keep telling it as it hangs with the others. There is always one that jumps ahead of another in the lineup to-be-quilted. lol

Hugs and stitches

WOW Nola!!
What a beautiful quilt, I was stumped trying to find the 'ugly' in your ugly quilt, the green isn't so bad You are so lucky to have an Amish friend to hand quilt this for you. Have you decided on a design?
All the best,
Sue

Nola, it's gorgeous. It's been on my list since I saw El's show on the pattern (she has a book, of course!) but yours is so much pretties than any others I've seen.

I'm so happy that you ladies all seem to like my quilt top!  I've admired that pattern for years and just decided that I could toss in a bunch of different colors and my "ugly" would just blend right in.  It's a great pattern to use up odds and ends of fabric - the strips are 3" wide by 18" long, so it's a super way to thin out your scrap box!  The only problem I had is there's a mistake in the number of strips you need so I ended up having to cut lots more.  Fortunately, I have a huge stash!!  If anyone is interested in the book I got this pattern from, it's called "Mountain Mist Favorites" - I bought it from Amazon.com for less than $5.  The book gives modern rotary cutting and strip piecing instructions for most of the quilts, as well as providing the original templates.  I highly recommend the book - lots of really nice older patterns.

Sue, I believe it was you who asked if I had a quilting design in mind.  I'll probably leave that up to Ida, but will tell her what the pattern suggests - shadow quilting the squares, then feathers and cross-hatching in the big open white spaces.  I'd love to quilt it myself, but just don't have time right now.

Just back from dropping off my "ugly" quilt at Ida's.  She's got 3 quilts ahead of mine, but I told her there was absolutely no hurry on it.  When it's finished I'll post pictures!
