Extreme Veteran Posts: 308 Location: Centennial, CO (56.0.84.25) | Sandy, I wish your aunt could talk some sense into my 86 year old mother, who absolutely shouldn't be living alone, but refuses to do anything about it. We asked her repeatedly to come spend the winter with us, but she wouldn't; I found a lovely retirement community not far from her house that would let her just stay during the winter months - she wouldn't even go look. Our McGhee family has a reputation for being stubborn, but my mom is stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn. I love her dearly, but she makes me crazy! My aunt was the same way until she got shingles, put on a different medicine, and couldn't handle it well. We're leaving tomorrow or Thur at the latest for North Carolina so she can live with her daughter there for awhile. If her body becomes used to this new medicine, she may just decide to come back here on her own....  Keep your fingers crossed for our travel please. Good luck with your retirement package and your trip to Arizona!Debbie and Gerda, those are some nice guilds you have! I joined the SD quild last fall, so haven't gotten very involved yet. I've been playing a spot of 'catch-up' with you all over the last couple of days. You've all been so busy, wish I could reply to all of you, maybe later. Poppy dog came back home last night, Mark has nicknamed her 'frankiendog' she does have a blue stitched scar around her whole neck, she is lucky to be alive. She is a labrador cross but both parents were working gun dogs, the vets reckon that is how she is so tough. Anyway today I am just trying to keep her as quiet as possible, she is away in a room away from the other dogs so I have had some nice quilt reading time with her. It will not be so quiet tomorrow though, Emma, Neill and Owen are coming to stay while their central heating is fixed. We have had fresh snow again today and it is quite nippy. Debbieann - Your quilt guild sounds like so much fun, how often do you get to go? and what on earth is Fons and Porters? Now I've got to go as the workmen have arrived to start building a new fence for us, actually it will be two, they are being built either side of the house to seperate the back garden from the front, they will make everything a lot more secure. I hear that the southern and the midwest storms may be moving our way and planning to collide overhead and make more winter weather happen ... we shall see ... A little sunshine break first would be nice, though! Pat, check out Sue Nickels' website. Her feathers are sure to make you drool! She draws them freehand and they are all the same size and shape! http://www.sue-nickels.com/index.html Mark got bad news at work yesterday. (They never seem to get good news!) One of his employees can no longer work on Saturdays, which means now he has to work all day every other Saturday (which he's been doing forever) and half day on the other Saturdays, at least until he can hire and train someone else. He's really mad about it! I hope he'll be able to schedule some half days off during the week. At least there are a lot of people in the job market right now, so maybe it won't take long to find someone. Gotta get to work. I sure wish I was on that cruise with Sally!  | ||

Veteran Posts: 266 Location: Scotland (95.146.22.183) | Hello Everyone, No snow in our little bit of Scotland today, it's just cold and damp, worst kind of weather if you ask me.  I always find it difficult to get warm all the way through when it is like this. The only plus side of it is that placing a cold hand on young Owen's tummy makes his laugh and giggle non-stop, who needs toys??? Emma, Neill and Owen are staying with us for a couple of days, their central heating should be sorted out tomorrow, then is will be back to just me and the remaining dogs, it is very quiet but I am at least getting some sewing done. The fence building is going along quickly, they managed to get the posts cemented in today, so tomorrow or the next day the actual fencing should begin, 6ft is awfully tall when you stand right up next to it! Donna - That is really tough news about your Mark's work, weekends are special times and everybody needs them. I hope he does manage to get some time off during the week to make up some 'off' time. We have a new accident reporting system (I work in Safety) that is so goobered up, it's not even funny. I'm so aggravated by it all that I called for my retirement packet last Wednesday (Sally will be jealous when she gets back from her cruise - we're both gov't employees and I know she's also anxious to retire). At least I get to go to Arizona tomorrow, where it should be a little warmer than here - may have to find an LQS and fondle some fabric!
... just in case I go "poof" suddenly 
... my super hubby started some of the maintenance needed to get it running smoothly again last weekend but it looks like more will be in the works
