Love it, Connie!  I just knew you'd find a fabulous way to use that rather "strange" piece of fabric!  I wouldn't have really considered it "ugly", but it was - well - "odd" - one of those that needs exactly the right project - and I think you found the right project for it!  I've never made anything using that heat-resistant fabric - is it easy to work with?  My LQS has it - been thinking about getting a bit of it and making hot pads out of some of my orphan blocks.  Love the decorative embroidery on the border of your placemat!!!!

Thanks Ladies!! This fabric was truly a CHALLENGE for me as it doesn't match anything that I have anywhere in my house. LOL But I thought this hot pad pattern was cute and with the added bright colors and the embroidery stitches you don't focus on those purple apples quite so much when you see it. ROFLOL!!!

Nola that hot pad batting is fabulous. It is soft just like regular batting and needles very easily with a machine anyway.

This pattern was originally done in the shape of a carrot. Flip and stitch method. It was so cute done in all different shades of orange and then it was cut into the shape of a carrot with green leaves added to the end. My fabric, did not, of course work with a carrot shape so I just went with a square hot pad holder that will hold my largest casserole without having to use two small ones.

That's always my problem, Connie - having to use two or more hot pads under those large casserole dishes!  Think I'll dig through my orphan blocks and see what I've got that I can sew together for a couple large hot pads.  (Sssssh - don't tell anyone - but it will also be a good excuse to go to my LQS to get the insulated batting stuff!)

I think I've seen that carrot pattern - you're right - it's really cute!  Would make a great one to use at Easter!.

Connie do you have a link or picture of the pattern you used for this? Sounds like a neat idea, and I can ALWAYS use a hot pad.

Wow Nola, great minds think alike! I was just coming here to remind folks of this thread, and boom! You beat me to it!

Okay, I have pictures for Mary, Nola, Connie, and Miki. Milica where is your photo missy? Cindy, Dorian, Jess - how are they coming? Oh wait, one of those is me.... Better get to finishing this baby up!

I am off to update the album. I will put the Ugly FQ's next to your finished products.

Oh, and btw:

Nola - That quilt is stunning!! Way to go. I love the scrappy look!

Mary - You had to go and use yellow with red so that I would be drawn to yours didn't you?!?!?!

Mom - What are you going to do with it now? Is it a gift since it clashes with your kitchen stuff? And then my question would be, who for??? HEHEHEHE.

Jess, I just looked at the album - my, there are some lovely quilts there, and to think they all came from such humble beginnings!  Can't wait to see the rest of the finished projects! One thing needs to be fixed tho' - you have my name listed with Mary's ugly FQ.

Ok, here is my Ugly wall hanging. I am not done quilting it yet, and it doesn't have a binding on it. But that is because hand quilting hurts my hands so much anymore I can sew for about half an hour, then have to stop. And my hands are swollen and ouchy for a few days afterwards. I hope this doesn't disqualify me. But if it does, I'll understand.

Lovely, Dorian!!  I know the rules said the project had to be finished by April 30, but under the circumstances, with your problems with your hands, I'm sure Jess will bend the rules a wee bit - won't ya, Jess???

Just amazing how unattractive fabric can be turned into something lovely!

Thank you Ladies. I found the orange/black pointy pieces in my stash and new I had to put them in the corners. Then I got paper and pencil and the quilt just came together. Miki, it was very easy actually, went together smoothly, for the most part. I just love that blue! Found it at Joann's and had to have it. lol
