Awesome Miki, both quilts are stunning! Are those 30's repos in your quilt? Can't quite tell. I love it. And you did great making the black and white one masculine. I know several guys that would love it! Mom made Billy a quilt a couple of years back and it is black, white, and grey. Hehe. Big Surprise!

Jami - Sorry about the bag woes. Mom has downloaded a couple of bag or hat patterns for free online that she just about ripped up and threw out before she got the end product made. Then, of course, she figured out the easier way to do them and now just makes those from memory I think. Good luck revamping the pattern, can't wait to see the bag! It reminds me, I made a cannoli cake from scratch for Thanksgiving at my in-laws. It took like 6 hours, including the baking time. It was really good, but totally not worth that amount of time! If I ever make one again, I will take any shortcut available!

Jami, I haven't sewn from a pattern in a long time, but I used to always look at Butterick first because I liked them better than McCall's & Simplicity. Good luck finishing your bag!

oops, forgot

Jami,
Butterick--they were harder than anything except Vogue. That bag must be a real bear!
Jenn, re already cut quilts, thats the way you buy John Flynn kits. I love them. He (actually Kate)uses a lasar to cut the peieces (which also seals the edges so no raveling). I talked to a quilt shop owner at the quilt show and she just bought a lasar cutter to cut kits--it amy be the wave of the future!! (I do not like cutting, I like sewing sooo much better)

Miki-

Cute quilts!! You added the pics after I whined, because they weren't there then! I love black and white quilts and with the addition of just 1 color, they can be either male or female! I added pink to one and it turned out gaw-gus! My nephews quilt is black & white with red.

I committed myself to doing choir outfits for a hs choir one time. I made the first of what was going to be 15 dresses. It was a vogue pattern, skirt and top. The skirt was a piece of cake, a-line style. The top was a bear. When I got half way through the top, I was ready to wad it up, throw it away and call the choir director and tell him to find someone else. The $ they were paying me wasn't worth it. when I finally finished the top (about 10 hours later), I threw the directions away, and the other tops flew together in about 2 hours each. The directions were just screwier than &^(^(&^(&,. Bags can be tricky. It is amazing how some pattern makers think they should go together. GOod luck, hope you get it figured out! If not, improvise a bit, no one but you will know....

Mikki beautiful quilts. I like both of them. the black and white is definitely masculine looking I too find it difficult to make menly quilts.. When stash hunting, I try to look for anything that isn't flowery or feminine.
Anyhow, well done!

Really nice quilts! The scrappy one looks like a string of hearts. Think I'd like to make one like it.... someday :)
Butterick patterns have the worst instructions. I use to make a lot of cloths. Butterick was always harder. The final straw was a dress for my youngest, the collar instructions were impossible - literally. It could not be made by their instructions. I had so much already into the dress I had to make up my own collar. Then I vowed never again!

Jami I hear you on the bags. For Jacob's Diaper bag, which I am still not finished with yet...I gave up and started from scratch making it up as I go along. So far it has been alot less headache-inducing, but I haven't started assembling all the pieces yet, as I have to add all the extra stuff like pockets and patches, etc. to the parts before I put them all together. The next part I have to do is the interior, and I've stalled because I can't decide how many sections/pockets etc. i want to have on the inside.

I love the black and white quilt!

Ms. Miki ... your quilts are sooooooooo nice!    You sure are a busy little quilter ... you just amaze me with how much you accomplish all the time!

I thought of rows of hearts when I saw the scrappy one, too ... what is this pattern, Ms Miki? ...  such a darling, cuddly looking quilt ...   Pat

Lovely quilts Miki!! Disappearing 9-patches are so much fun to make. I think you did a fantastic job making it look manly.

Manly quilts are harder to make. Which means those on the RR swap are going to have 'fun' trying to keep to a manly theme in my quilt

Jess the fabric is mostly Aunt Grace fabrics. I just love those fabrics!!!

Pat, I found the pattern in the American Patchwork & Quilting mag. Apr.2008 issue. The pattern is reminiscent of a card trick block. Went together very quick.

A cool thing.......one of my co-workers who knows how much I love quilting picked up a few quilting Magazines at Half price bookstore for me. She paid $1.00 per mag. They were all less than 6 months old. Now I have to remember to check the magazine section when I go in there.

Yippie!!!! It's done! It took way longer than I thought it would, but I don't work on it all day long...it was so easy to get discouraged because of the instructions.

Anyway, here are some pics of it. It is about 17" tall and wide  X 8" in depth. Big enough to hold my biggest square ruler and just about everyting but the kitchen sink!
